Dental Exams

At Flagship Dental, every smile begins with a careful assessment. For new patients, we take the time to understand your dental history and the current state of your teeth and mouth. This comprehensive exam ensures that every cleaning and treatment is tailored with precision and artistry.

Dental X-Rays

Comprehensive care begins with accurate diagnosis. We provide full-sequence 2D and 3D imaging in-office—or can review recent radiographs from your previous provider—to ensure nothing is overlooked. From there, we create ethical treatment plans that keep you involved every step of the way, while equipping you with the skills to care for your smile long after each visit.

Oral Evaluation

Your visit begins with a full oral evaluation, including photos, digital models, and x-rays. We check for signs of inflammation, pocketing, or recession—possible indicators of gum disease—along with tooth decay. Using the AAP standard for staging and grading, we tailor a care plan and hygiene interval unique to your needs.

Oral Cancer Screening

Every exam, we can conduct an oral cancer screening to scan for any signs of oral cancer in your facial features, throat, mouth, or gums. You have a better chance of identifying oral cancer in its early stages if you are proactive with oral cancer screenings, especially if you are aged 40 or older.

Dental Cleanings

We know your smile matters, and we’re here to help. Your dental hygienist will gently remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains that accumulate over time—buildups that brushing alone can’t eliminate. Regular cleanings are key to keeping your smile healthy and radiant.

Examine

Before beginning your cleaning, we’ll take a few moments to gently inspect your mouth. This allows us to get a closer look at your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, making sure everything is in good shape and identifying any areas that may need a bit of extra attention. It’s a thoughtful first step that helps us tailor your care and ensure the most comfortable, effective cleaning possible.

Clean

Once the initial inspection is complete, your dental hygienist will begin the cleaning using a gentle, high-tech ultrasonic tool. This instrument uses sound vibrations and a fine mist of water to comfortably loosen and remove built-up plaque and tartar from your teeth—especially in those hard-to-reach areas. It’s a safe, effective process that helps keep your smile healthy and refreshed, all while ensuring your comfort every step of the way.

Polish

After the ultrasonic cleaning, we’ll move on to the scaling and polishing stage—refining your smile with precision and care. Using the latest technology and advanced materials, we’ll gently remove any remaining buildup along the gumline and smooth the surface of your teeth. Then, we’ll polish them with a special paste that leaves your smile feeling clean, bright, and refreshed. It’s the finishing touch that not only enhances your oral health but also helps your teeth look and feel their best.

Your dental hygienist will work to remove plaque, tartar and stain build up on your teeth. Plaque, which is a soft, sticky film that forms due to food buildup, and tartar, a type of hardened buildup that forms on your teeth, can cause tooth decay if not removed. Even if you brush and floss regularly, plaque and tartar will still accumulate in your mouth over time.

After inspecting your mouth, your dentist will use ultrasonic teeth cleaning tools to loosen plaque and tartar, and will spray away debris with water. Lastly, the surfaces of your teeth will be scaled and polished. At our office in Surrey, we use the newest technology in ultrasonic cleaning, and constantly strive to use only the safest and most effective materials when examining your mouth.

It’s great to start teaching children healthy dental habits from a young age. Of course, you know your children best, but we have seen patients as young as two years old come in for a teeth cleaning.

For first time visits for kids, we’ll do a chair ride and introduce them to the dental environment, give them a prize to make it fun, and if they will open up their mouth we’ll go in for a look. We don’t recommend forcing this on the first visit. However, if needed – for example if your child has bumped their teeth – we’ll make sure this happens.
